THE FISH ARE BITING! THE FISH ARE BITING! SOMEWHERE!!!
FISHING ON LAKE JAMES IS PICKING UP CONSIDERABLY. BASS ARE BEING CAUGHT ALL OVER THE LAKE ON VARIOUS BAITS. THE MOST POPULAR RIGHT NOW IS SHINERS; FISHED FREE LINE. ALSO LIMITS OF SMALLMOUTHS ARE BEING CAUGHT ON CAROLINA RIGS. THE FISH ARE NOT WHERE THEY SHOULD BE DUE TO THE FAST RISING WATERS. SMALLMOUTH HAD STARTED THEIR BEDDING AND THEN THE WATER CAME UP, THIS PUTS THEM NOW IN 12 TO 15 FEET OF WATER. UNFORTUNALLY, THIS MEANS THEIR EGGS WILL NOT GET SUNLIGHT WHICH PROBABLY MEANS THEY WILL NOT HATCH. LARGEMOUTH AND CRAPPIE ARE IN THE LAPS. WALLEYES ARE MIGRATING TO THE LAPS AND SOME HAVE STARTED TO HEAD FOR DEEPER WATER. BEWARE; THE LAKE IS DANGEROUS WITH FLOATING LOGS AND DEPRI!

Many of you know Graham Morgan from Southpointe by way of Australia. Graham fishes all over the world for fresh water fish, including South America for Peacock Bass. His favorite haunt is Lake James and he is one of the most accomplished bass fishermen to fish this lake. Well, this past fall he had two months of fishing Lake James that many of us dream about. In October he made twelve trips between October 1st and October 30th and caught 183 fish. The largest bass was a 6lb. Large-mouth and a 4.5lb. Walleye. All were caught on crank baits, Zoom super flukes, and a top water popper. In the month of November he made thirteen trips and caught 153 bass on crank baits. Now folks, that’s catching fish no matter where you are! I have heard of the Dead Sea from so many folks. Don’t tell Graham!! Lake James has fish but you have to find them. Fishing is a matter of “chunking and winding” but you have to be a hunter first. Hunting for fish is the most frustrating part of the whole trip. Think like a fish and don’t be afraid of a little wind. It breaks up the water surface and makes it harder for the fish to see you. Also, a little color in the water gives the fish a sense of security. Graham is a testimony that fish can be caught HERE if you are persistent. WAY TO GO GRAHAM!!!!!
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ September / 2010 ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ It has been reported that Walleyes are starting to hit on jigging spoons in about 60 feet of water. Some folks are still using night crawlers for walleyes, but they are in deep water. The Bass fishing is still slow. Now is the time to try top water lures close to the shoreline, early morning and late afternoons.
It was reported that Ralph Peeler caught 5 smallmouths that weighed close to 25 pounds.
Of course, he is probably the foremost smallmouth fishermanon Lake James.
In 1999, several bald eagles were found nesting in trees on the northeastern shore of the lake, stopping housing development in their vicinity.
We are proud to annouce the formation of the Lake James Area Wildlife and Nature Society!
